Saturday (15th April) is International Microvolunteering Day. Veterinary charity PDSA is encouraging animal lovers to get a taste of helping needy pets and gain an insight into its fund-raising retail division.
Toria Salisbury-Scott, PDSA Central Operations Manager for Retail, said: “Volunteering is great in so many ways, whether it’s to boost your knowledge and skills for future employment opportunities, or a way to meet new people.
“Some people have considered volunteering but aren’t quite sure what to expect. International Microvolunteering Day provides a fantastic opportunity to dip your toe in the water without any commitment to see whether it’s right for you.”
The charity’s shops raise funds to provide PDSA-funded veterinary treatment in their local areas. “Volunteering for PDSA is fun, it’s great for your CV, plus you get to meet new people and make new friends,” said Tori. “No previous retail experience is needed and full training can be provided for those who wish to volunteer in the longer term.”
Every year, the teams at its 51 Pet Hospitals and 380-plus Pet Practices provide 2.7 million veterinary treatments, including 440,000 preventative treatments. This, says the charity, helps over 470,000 pets.
