The animal health industry leaders has paid warm tributes to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, hailing her ‘deep connection’ to animals, the countryside and farming.

British Veterinary Association president Justine Shotton, said: “All of us at the British Veterinary Association are deeply saddened to learn of the death of our Patron Her Majesty The Queen.

“A dedicated public servant and a lifelong animal lover, as our Patron for more than seven decades she helped build the UK’s international reputation for high standards of animal welfare, supported the vital work of our veterinary professionals, and improved the lives of animals both here in the UK and across the world. We are eternally grateful for her service and our hearts and thoughts are with her family, her friends, and the nation.”

NOAF chief executive Dawn Howard added: “She served the country and its people with unstinting dedication for over 70 years and had a true passion for animals, particularly horses and dogs.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to King Charles III and the royal family, at this very sad time for our country.”

NFU president Minette Batters shared her deepest condolences with the Royal Family, following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

She said: “Words cannot describe the deep sense of sadness that I and the rest of the farming community will feel at the news of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen.

“Her Majesty has been the embodiment of duty and public service, seeing the country through seven decades where we have seen huge change in our nation and in our fields.”

Mrs Batters continued: “The Queen’s deep connection to the countryside has been valued enormously by farmers and has left a remarkable legacy that will continue for generations.

“On behalf of farmers in England and Wales, I would like to send my deepest condolences to the King, Queen Consort and the Royal Family at this truly sad time for our country.”
