identi, one of the UK’s longest established pet microchipping services, has signed a five-year partnership with Cats Protection to provide the charity with identichip microchips.
The company will also join forces with Cats Protection in a media partnership to raise awareness of microchipping cats, which becomes compulsory in owned cats in England on June 10, 2024, to empower vet and pet professionals and keepers with knowledge and resources to ensure the safety and wellbeing of cats across the UK.
Amy Spratt, product and marketing manager at identi, said: “As the deadline for mandatory cat microchipping in England draws near, approximately three million cats in the UK are still unchipped.
“The new collaboration between identi and Cats Protection has come at a pivotal moment and will help ensure our commitment to creating a safer, happier environment for cats nationwide.”
Madison Rodgers, head of advocacy, campaigns & government relations at Cats Protection, added: “Microchips are a safe and permanent method of identification which provide a simple and effective way of reuniting cats with their owners should they be lost, injured or stolen.
“Cats Protection campaigned for the compulsory microchipping of pet cats to be introduced in England and we are delighted to be partnering with identi to raise awareness of this new important legislative change for cat owners.
“It is important that owners keep their details registered on a microchip up to date so they can be contacted as swiftly as possible. We are really looking forward to building a positive, meaningful relationship with identi, supporting cat owners throughout the country.”
