A ‘breakthrough’ calf milk replacer formula that is inspired by colostrum and contains guaranteed levels of key dairy components crucial for gut health and development is now available from Mole Valley Farmers.
ProtéGo, developed by youngstock nutrition specialist Nukamel, is rich in Milk Fat Globule Membrane (MFGM) enriched dairy ingredients, immunoglobulins and lactoferrin.
These components play a vital role in gut health and development and help lower the incidence and severity of diarrhoea, increase the uptake of immunoglobulins (IgG) and other proteins from milk and, overall, increases the growth of the calf.
This first-of-its-kind formula is designed to be fed for the first 21 days after colostrum to extend the natural protection and can also be fed for the whole rearing period.
Research focusing on calves fed ProtéGo found they had:
- Increased daily weight gain;
- Higher average daily gains in the first two weeks;
- Greater resilience to disease;
- Reduction of incidence of diarrhoea; and
- Reduced morbidity.
Charlotte Hodgson, Mole Valley Farmers’ senior product manager, said ProtéGo is a product for all farmers.
“Whether you are driving growth in high-performing calves or have issues with scours in the early life and are looking to give your calves extra support, then ProtéGo can help,” she said.
“This product is bridging the gap between colostrum and whole milk. It’s helping protect the gut against pathogens whilst supporting calf growth and development.”
