Pets at Home has recalled cat food products after three cats became ‘seriously unwell’ and suffered fits.
The products are all from its AVA range of dry cat food. Pets at Home says investigations showed that the level of thiamine (vitamin B1) was lower than it had specified.
A statement from the company said: “We are aware of three cats which, sadly, became seriously unwell four to six weeks after switching to one of the affected products and required veterinary care. All three cats exhibited symptoms of sudden collapse, fitting, widespread twitching and general unsteadiness.”
It added: “Testing confirmed only these four products are affected.”
Pets at Home has advised customers that if any pets show any of these symptoms after switching to one of the four affected products, they should stop feeding and seek immediate veterinary advice.
It says owners can contact its customer advisers on 0800 328 4204 for general advice.
The four products are:
AVA Mature Cat Chicken 2kg
CODE: 7120400
AVA Mature Cat Chicken 4kg
CODE: 7120401
VA Senior Cat Chicken 2kg
CODE:7120402

Pets at Home says anyone who has any of these products at home should not feed them, but should dispose of the contents and return the packaging to any Pets at Home store for a full refund.
